The One Algon Place Foundation, Inc. (TOAPFI) was founded in the early part of 2004 by world-famous steel trader Rudin A. Gonzales Jr., his wife Annie, and their three children as part of his long-cherished aspiration to help people, especially those suffering from mental health problems, drug dependency, alcoholism, and codependency. Imbued with a sense of mission, this goodhearted man has always pondered contributing to his Filipino compatriots' welfare. To his credit, he has received various awards for his dedicated and exemplary service to humanity.
The TOAPFI Board consulted a pool of trained and experienced rehabilitation experts, and, in line with their recommendations, it trained a pool of potentially competent and highly qualified rehabilitation workers to be the nucleus of the team to run the center and achieve maximum success.
The word "algon" is taken from the middle name and surname of the foundation’s chairman, Almendral and Gonzales, respectively. This was the name given to the small fishpond owned by the Gonzales family, which later became a one-hectare, relaxing, and tranquil resort developed over a decade ago.
This enterprise was later converted into what is now known as the One Algon Place Drug and Alcohol Treatment and Rehabilitation Center. On July 5, 2004, the center was granted accreditation by the Philippines’ regulatory body, the Department of Health (DOH). This milestone has earned The One Algon Place recognition as the first in Luzon licensed and accredited by the DOH.
The facility was inaugurated on September 18, 2004, with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Edgar B. Aglipay as the guest of honor and Speaker, whom the Malacaang Palace sent to represent no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The occasion was attended by various dignitaries from different sectors, notably Congresswoman Uliran Joaquin of Laguna 1st District and Vice-Governor Edwin Olivarez.
First, one patient and then another came for admission. Eventually, The One Algon Place got more inpatients.
On August 4, 2012, as part of the promise of our Chairman, Rudin A. Gonzales Jr., to Dr. Baltazar V. Reyes to name the TAOH Building under BVR’s name, Dr. BVR only had one wish: to call the TAOH building only until BVR passed away first. The Baltazar V. Reyes Hospital was unveiled by no less than Vice President Jejomar Binay, the family of the late Dr. BVR, and Asst. Sec. Ted Herbosa of DOH, psychiatrists' friends, representatives of Sen. Edgardo Angara local politicians around Laguna, and Relatives and Friends of the Gonzales familyfriendsrelativesLaguna, Angara,
